Wilson Sanches Mendes was born and raised in Holland to parents originally from the Cape Verde islands.
He was an energetic, active youngster but didn't pick up on kickboxing until his teenage years, when a cousin brought him to a training session.
From that point on he was hooked. Already a keen boxing fan, he finds himself channelling inspiration from his icons as he seeks to make a name for himself in the sports.
“What motivates me are the old-timers like Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammed Ali. I want to be a legend like them!” he says.
