The GLORY 69 main card pitted former middleweight title challenger Yousri Belgaroui (26-6, 13 KO’s) against Ulric Bokeme (30-3, 17 KO’s).
Tunisia’s Belgaroui attacked with low kicks, backing Bokeme to the ropes. Belgaroui maintained a high output, keeping Bokeme with his back against the ropes. The towering Belgaroui scored with knees in the clinch.
The Swiss-based Bokeme settled into a rhythm as the round progressed, answering the strikes of Belgaroui. A late flying knee attempt by Belgaroui just missed the mark.
A left hook from Bokeme found the liver of Belgaroui to start the second stanza. Belgaroui was unfazed and returned to his kicking attack. A head kick from Belgaroui grazed the head of Bokeme, but he did not go down.
Bokeme stepped into a knee, forcing Belgaroui to clinch. Bokeme threw heavy power punches which prompted Belgaroui to use push kicks to re-establish his range. The short knees of Belgaroui continued to land in the clinch. A spinning backfist from Belgaroui capped off the round.
Bokeme came out throwing wildly in round three. Belgaroui willingly engaged in a firefight in the center of the ring. Bokeme backed the taller fighter to the ropes. The referee paused the action to warn Bokeme for leading with his head.
Belgaroui’s pace was much more measured in the final round. A right hand from Bokeme found the jaw of Belgaroui, but he wore it well. Bokeme threw knees of his own, but it was too little, too late.
The judges rendered a unanimous decision in favor of Belgaroui.
“I feel good. I was happy with the kicks and the knees,” said the Tunisian fighter. “I’m going to keep on growing.”
Yousri Belgaroui def. Ulric Bokeme by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
