Beztati: “I am sharp and ready to roll!”

Thursday, Sep 14 2017 by John O'Regan

Young lightweight prospect Tyjani Beztati (13-1, 5 KO’s) faces the toughest test of his career and puts his undefeated GLORY record on the line when he meets Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai (89-28-1, 54 KO’s) at GLORY 45 AMSTERDAM.

The 19-year-old Beztati is 3-0 in GLORY and steadily climbing the rankings. He is currently ranked at #8 and will climb still higher if he can beat the #4-ranked Yodkhunpon.

“I am sharp and ready to roll!” says the Team Colosseum fighter. He is speaking over the phone from the comfort of his home on a rare afternoon that his trainers have allowed him off.

“I’ve see a few of Yodkhunpon’s fights and I guess he’s a good fighter, but for me he is just another opponent to beat. He’s my first Thai opponent and he has a lot more fights on his record than me, but it’s still just another guy.”

Despite the difference in experience it is actually Beztati who sports the better GLORY record of the two, being 3-0 in the organization versus Yodkhunpon’s 1-2 record.

“On paper I am the favorite I guess,” Beztati allows. “I don’t want to talk too much about what he is doing right or wrong [since he crossed to kickboxing rules] but I have my gameplan very clear and I am going to execute it.”

Team Colosseum’s training room is renowned as an intense environment, but that intensity has been cranked up by a multiple of five for this current training camp.

Five of the team’s fighters are competing on Saturday, September 30: three of them at GLORY 45 AMSTERDAM and two of them on a different event.

Former middleweight champion Jason ‘Psycho’ Wilnis is one of Beztati’s training partners. He lost the belt back to Simon Marcus at GLORY 40 COPENHAGEN by way of a split-decision he didn’t agree with; at GLORY 45 he will fight Yousri Belgaroui in a title shot eliminator battle.

“Jason is sharp as hell!” says Beztati. “We are all sharp. Five of us fighting on the same day, the energy is really high in the gym right now, the atmosphere is really good.

“From watching him, I feel like Jason is more focused and hungry than ever. He lost what was his and he wants it back. We are all supporting him in that. It should be a hell of a fight with Yousri.”
