Light-heavyweight champion Artem Vakhitov sent us some word to share with the fans ahead of tonight’s interim light-heavyweight championship fight between Alex Pereira and Donegi Abena at #GLORY68.
“It’s an interesting fight. Let’s see how Pereira copes with the transition to my division. I think he will experience some difficulties with the more powerful blows at light-heavyweight, also some endurance issues. I expect him to knock Abena out because Abena doesn’t have the best defense, but this weight, any blow can end the fight instantly.
So we will see who comes away with the silver belt and then has the right to fight me when I return. The silver belt does not concern me. My efforts and my team are now focused only on recovery and rehabilitation. I must also give thanks for the medical support and advice of Stroyservice CJSC.
When recovery is complete, I shall immediately return to the ring, confirm my status as undisputed champion and keep my belt. By overcoming difficulties in life we become stronger, more tempered. I am sure I will return stronger and smarter. I’m already back in training and soon will be training at full force.
I am in the gym every day, even with my hand in a plaster cast. As soon as the doctor gives the go-ahead, we will discuss the date of my return and I will begin full preparations for the defense of my title.
I want to thank the fans for their kind words and support. I will see you again soon!
