River Daz

Australia is known to have tough and competitive kickboxing and Muay Thai circuits, having in the past produced world-renowned fighters such as John Wayne Parr and Nathan Corbett.

So when Daz was able to battle his way to the top of the Australian scene - and maintain a perfect professional record while doing so - that got him on the GLORY radar.

A number of fighters have entered the GLORY ranks with undefeated records over the years only to find that their debut results in the first defeat of their career as they encounter an opponent drawn from the most elite of the world’s strikers.

Daz is one of the few fighters to have maintained his undefeated record in his GLORY debut, which is yet another testament to the level of his ability.

A product of Hammer’s Gym in his native Melbourne, Australia, Daz was an athletic teenager who played tennis through his school years and briefly entertained ambitions of turning professional.

But when a cousin introduced him to Muay Thai, Daz put down the racket for good. His sporting career would thereafter be a gloved one.

Daz’s coach Mark ‘Hammer’ Castagnini says that the most notable thing about his fighter initially was his sheer level of dedication. Daz was in the gym training for hours every evening, traveling to and from the gym by public transport.

It was only after one night offering Daz a lift home after practice that Hammer realized his student lived not locally, as he had thought, but way out in the suburbs. While driving the considerable distance to Daz’s home, he realized the prospective fighter clearly had the drive and determination to take him all the way.

Carefully nurtured via inter-club and amateur competition before entering the professional ranks, Daz has lived up to that potential. His trophy shelf includes state and national championships. Now his eyes are on the biggest prize in the sport: a GLORY world title.
