GLORY 109 Results: Chico Kwasi Defends Title

GLORY 109 took place Saturday night, September 5, from the RTM Stage in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and we saw GLORY double champ Chico Kwasi (47-6-2, 23 KO) make the fifth title defense of his GLORY welterweight world title with another masterful display. 

The 28-year-old defeated Bulgaria’s Teodor Hristov (20-6, 8 KO) with a shutout performance and then turned his attention to the welterweight grand prix in December where he will defend his title in an eight-man one-night tournament at COLLISION 10.

The welterweight proving grounds was stacked with breakout performances and incredible finishes as several fighters declared their interest to enter the end of year grand prix and challenge Kwasi. 

Mohammed Boutasaa (22-3, 5 KO) got the victory over valiant rival Figuereido Landman (15-3, 12 KO) in a heated contest from start to finish. ‘The Matrix’ Jay Overmeer (32-9, 16 KO) reintroduced himself to GLORY fans with a decision win over def, Don Sno (7-4, 3 KO), Croatia’s Antonio Krajinovic (5-1, 3 KO) rallied from behind to stop Italy’s Michael Samperi (37-4, 19 KO), top prospect Anwar Ouled-Chaib (6-1) defeated veteran Christian Baya (60-10-1, 35 KO) via unanimous decision (30-26 x 5), and Mohammed Hamdi (23-5, 11 KO) had a career best performance against Valentin Knau (43-4, 20 KO) via TKO (maximum knockdowns), round 2, 1:13.

Other proving grounds fights saw Dmitry Menshikov (34-3, 24 KO) defeat Diaguely Camara (29-7-1, 15 KO), Serbia’s Nikola Todorovic (32-4, 17 KO) get a victory over Vedat Hoduc (51-7-1, 31 KO) via unanimous decision (30-26 x 4, 29-27), and debutant Fikri Sabri (14-2, 7 KO) stop Artiom Livadari (11-4-1, 4 KO) in the second round.

In the co-main event, Tariq Osaro (32-5-1, 18 KO) made a massive statement with a demolition of the legendary Errol Zimmerman (112-22-1, 45 KO). The man known as ‘Cookie’ scored a huge stoppage win over the veteran and immediately took to the microphone and declared himself as a number one contender for the GLOTY heavyweight world title.
