There are five fights taking place on the Denver SUPERFIGHT SERIES card. Here we are going to look at what I think are the two key bouts.
First we have Casey Greene (3-5, 1 KO) against Francois Ambang (14-4, 6 KO’s), a welterweight (170lbs/77kgs) contest.
Greene answered the call to take part in a late-notice fight against Mike Lemaire at GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO. He also made the final of the Middleweight Contender Tournament at GLORY 23 LAS VEGAS but lost to Dustin Jacoby.
The fight against Lemaire was on two days’ notice, he had been training for an MMA fight, but he gave Lemaire a very hard fight and I think if he had started quicker he would have won that fight. Greene is still somewhat new to kickboxing, hence his record.
After the Las Vegas tournament Casey told us that he wants to drop to welterweight, which is the weight he fights at in MMA. We said ‘of course’ so now he is making his welterweight debut against Ambang.
Ambang is experienced in our welterweight category and is a good test for where Casey Greene is going to fit in that division. Ambang has good hands and has Greene likes to move forward and attack all the time so it should be a good fight.
We last saw Ambang at GLORY 19 VIRGINIA where he did a demolition job on Stephen Richards. That fight followed his heavy stoppage loss to Raymond Daniels at GLORY 16 last year, which was also in Denver. So he is 1-1 in his last two fights and on his second trip to Denver he is looking to erase the memories of his first visit and get on a winning run.
Finally, a middleweight contest. Canada’s Robert ‘White Dragon’ Thomas (7-3, 5 KO’s) takes on French debutant David Radeff (23-6, 2 KO’s).
Robert Thomas had some very hard fights in his first GLORY appearances, facing guys like Artem Levin and Joe Schilling. He lost to those guys but he gave them both tough fights and I think maybe people haven’t seen what he can really offer. So here he has a match at a more appropriate level for his experience.
Radeff has fought at a high level, he has faced people like Sahak Parparyan, but he isn’t in the top end of the division. He is strong and has good skills. He wants to make a good debut so he will bring the fight to Thomas.
Weighing against him is the fact that he is now in his early 30s, so perhaps coming towards the end of his peak competitive years. But our recent event in France was excellent and it looks like France will be a strong market for GLORY, so a good performance here will surely see Radeff featured on our next French card.
