The GLORY 97 x RISE World Series event took place in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 21, live from the Makuhari Messe Event Hall just outside of Tokyo in Japan.

It was the last event of 2024 on the GLORY calendar and helped cap off the biggest year in GLORY history which saw several sold-out events, returns to Belgium & Croatia, the reintroduction of the GLORY Grand Prix, and COLLISION 7 breaking attendance records earlier this month.

GLORY featherweight world champion Petch (173-40-3, 27 KO) outlasted seven of the best fighters on the planet to win the GLORY x RISE Featherweight Grand Prix. The Thai great defeated Japan’s Taiju Shiratori (30-11-1, 12 KO) in the opening round and then South Korean veteran Sunghyun Lee (70-12-2, 17 KO) in the semi-finals.

In the final he came face-to-face with fellow GLORY representative Miguel Trindade (61-7, 26 KO). The Portuguese power puncher dispatched of his first two opponents with back-to-back first round finishes. However, in the final, Petch’s experience was too much and once again reaffirmed that he is the best featherweight on the planet.

In the RISE superfights, Canada’s Usami Hide Meison (6-0-1, 3 KO) defeated Takumi Sanekata (27-11-2, 6 KO) via unanimous decision to become and RISE welterweight champion and 18-year-old phenom Ryujin Nasukawa (13-2, 6 KO) finished experienced Thai fighter Petmai MC Superlekmuaythai (42-12-2) with a second round TKO.

In the reserve fight for the Grand Prix, the Netherlands’ Jan Kaffa (20-5, 7 KO) took part in one of the fights of the year but suffered a controversial knockdown which resulted in Yutaro Asahi (17-9, 4 KO) being awarded the victory.
