South Korean heavyweight Yong Soo Park (14-7, 8 KO’s) has been added to the GLORY Superfight Series 20 card taking place Friday, April 3 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
He replaces Xavier Vigney in a fight with Britain’s Chi Lewis-Parry (4-0). Both fighters will be making their GLORY debut.
“Vigney’s knockout performance at GLORY 19 impressed us and so we have decided to give him a different fight for his next outing, which we will announce soon,” explained Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.
“Actually Park was originally intended to appear at GLORY 5 LONDON early in 2013, but decided he wanted to spend more time working on his kickboxing to complement his high-level Tae Kwon Do skills, so now he is finally making his debut.”
Park has trained and competed in the native Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do since his youth. He has won several national championships in South Korea, where the competition is stiff, and has been a longtime member of a national team.
His training background has made him into one of the best kickers in the heavyweight division and he is also notable for his movement and evasive ability. Park won three fights in a row when he transitioned from Tae Kwon Do competition to kickboxing and has faced top names such as Musashi and Jerome Le Banner.
Lewis-Parry is a former professional basketball player who switched his focus to martial arts after failing to secure a spot with the LA Lakers following a tryout in 2010. He has since gone undefeated, with four wins under kickboxing rules and six in Mixed Martial Arts under the ONE FC banner.
GLORY Superfight Series 20 and GLORY 20 DUBAI take place Friday, April 3 at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. GLORY 20 DUBAI is headlined by Robin van Roosmalen defending the World Lightweight Championship against Andy ‘The Machine’ Ristie.
