DoumbĂ© blasts “fake” Lidon ahead of GLORY 47 showdown

Former welterweight champion Cedric DoumbĂ© (67-5-1, 39 KO’s) says he wants to prove a point to Yohan Lidon (123-34, 77 KO’s) in the co-main event of next week’s GLORY 47 LYON event.   “He thinks he is #1 in France but he is not, he is #1 in his mind only. I won the GLORY belt and defended it twice. He has never won a GLORY title,” says ‘Doumced’.   “Lidon says he is a 17-time world champion in Muay Thai - do you believe that? Even Floyd Mayweather is not 17-time world champion! I don’t like fighters who lie to everyone like this. In this sport we have to be taken seriously and how are people going to take us seriously if we have fighters saying things like this?   “The only belt with credibility is the GLORY belt. Who has had it? Nieky Holzken, Cedric DoumbĂ©. I am the champion, the world champion, Lidon is not. He is a fake and thats what I want to show to everyone.”   DoumbĂ© won the title in December by way of a unanimous decision over Nieky Holzken and then defended it against Yoann Kongolo and again against Holzken in a rematch.    He then lost the belt to Murthel Groenhart by way of a split-decision at GLORY 44 CHICAGO in August, but he considers the judges decision to be incorrect.   “Everyone saw this fight against Murthel and everyone has an opinion about this fight. I won the fight. But anyway
the result is what it is, so lets look forward. The next challenge is Lidon and for me its not a serious challenge because he is not a strong fighter,” he says.    “At GLORY 39 I told you the fight against Kongolo would be easy for me, right? And it was easy for me. And this will be the same. It’s going to be easy for me because it’s over three rounds and I am unbeatable over three rounds.    “He’s not on my level; he’s a preparation fight for me before I go and get my belt back. I want to thank GLORY for giving me an easy fight like this. Yes, why not? Sometimes its good to have an easy challenge and this time it’s my turn!”   GLORY featherweight champion Robin van Roosmalen described himself as ‘a king without a crown’ earlier this year after having the belt temporarily taken from him when he failed to make weight for a January title defense.    Having lost the welterweight belt by way of what he considers to be a mistake by the Chicago judges, DoumbĂ© seems to share Roosmalen’s sentiments.   “I beat everyone in this division. I am the best, everyone know it. Some people hate me, some people like me, but love me or hate me, everyone wants to see my fight. GLORY needs me, kickboxing needs me! I am kickboxing and Yohan Lidon is not going to change that.”   GLORY 47 LYON takes place in the historic city of Lyon, France on Saturday, October 28 and features light-heavyweight champion Artem Vakhitov defending the belt against Brazilian contender Ariel Machado.
