GLORY’s Iconic Images #4: Here comes Nieky Holzken

  • News
  • Jul 17, 2014

Nieky Holzken is one of the world’s best pound-for-pound kickboxers. Fans love his sharp skills, punching power and killer instinct.

Holzken underlined his greatness by winning the four-man Welterweight Championship Tournament at GLORY 13 TOKYO with two outstanding performances.

Injury has sidelined Holzken in 2014. In that time the vacant World Welterweight Championship belt was won by Marc de Bonte then passed to ‘Bazooka’ Joe Valtellini. Holzken is now back in training and ready to get back in action.

“There are three photographers working at GLORY events. In addition to myself, Scott Hirano and Ryan Loco are brining the heat on fight night,” says James Law, GLORY photographer.

“We are always moving between catwalks, crouching under trusses and sprinting from the canvas to the warm-up room and back again to ensure that we're getting the shot.

“In this shot, Hirano has ninja’d himself into position between the giant in-arena graphic display screen and the fighter making his walkout.

“The fighter in question is the highly-skilled relentless knockout artist Nieky Holzken. Scott waited for just the right moment to get this epic shot of our welterweight tournament champion, and it paid off. GLORY has even produced a limited edition tee of this image.

“We are always on the hunt for epic shots and we will do whatever waiting, ducking, diving or running it takes to make sure we’re in the right place to capture them.”
