Van Roosmalen: “I hope Petchpanomrung comes to fight!”

Robin van Roosmalen (37-7, 21 KO's) wants Petchpanomrung Kiatmookao (156-35-2, 25 KO's) to bring the heat when they meet at GLORY 41 HOLLAND next month.

The fight is for the vacant featherweight belt, taken from Van Roosmalen when he missed weight for his title defense against Matt Embree at GLORY 37 LOS ANGELES.

Petchpanomrung won the Featherweight Contender Tournament at last month's GLORY 39 BRUSSELS, scoring back-to-back wins over Nafi Bilalovski and former champion Serhiy Adamchuk to secure the tournament trophy and its accompanying title shot.

“He's a smaller version of Sitthichai,” says Van Roosmalen, who was ringside that night to watch his next challenger in action.

“I don't really see any areas of concern. He fights like all the Thais. He has a good left kick but his boxing is nothing special. I just hope he comes to fight and not to clinch as much as he did in the final [against Adamchuk].”

GLORY 41 HOLLAND takes place in Den Bosch, Van Roosmalen's home city, on Saturday, May 20. The former champion is expecting a large turnout of support for himself at the Brabanthallen (Brabant Hall) and says being on home soil adds an extra element for him.

“I am determined to get [the belt] back. I know I own that belt, it's my belt, everyone knows it. I just want it back to show its really mine,” he says.

“I am motivated right now am, I am training, I am already in shape. I will be fighting in my home town so that gives me extra motivation to get the belt back in front of my home crowd.”
