5 Fast Facts: Anissa Meksen

Anissa Meksen (97-4, 31 KO’s) is the GLORY World Super-Bantamweight Champion.   It’s a position she has held twice: first, when she took the belt from former champion Tiffany van Soest and second when she regained the belt from Brazil’s Jady Menezes after losing it to her in extremely controversial fashion.   At GLORY 64 STRASBOURG next month she is on home soil for a rematch with Van Soest, who is attempting to regain by force what was taken from her in New York in late 2017.   Here are five things to know about the defending champion:   1: Meksen debuted at GLORY 43 and went 2-0 before getting a title shot against defending champion Tiffany van Soest at GLORY 48 NEW YORK.    She won a close decision to take the belt from Van Soest and assert herself as the top female striker on the planet.

  2: Meksen’s longest win streak was 36 fights, 34 of them under kickboxing rules, one under professional boxing rules and one under Muay Thai rules.

  3: She started training at 12 years old and had her first fight at the age of 13. She says that ever since that first fight she has “woken up every day as a fighter - I wake, I train, rest, train again, go home. It’s very simple but that simplicity is my key to success.”   4: Meksen’s only loss in GLORY came at GLORY 56 DENVER when she was on the receiving end of what is widely considered the worst judging decision in GLORY history.    Meksen lost her title to Jady Menezes by way of a split-decision from the Colorado State Athletic Commission judges and insult was added to injury by the fact that the decision snapped her 36-fight win streak.5. Meksen regained the title in an immediate rematch at GLORY 61 NEW YORK, putting a beating on Menezes in the first round and then stopping her inside the first minute of the second round.    “Justice has been done,” she declared afterwards, also revealing that she had been barely able to sleep for weeks after the Denver decision.  Anissa Meksen will defend the women’s super-bantamweight championship against Tiffany van Soest at GLORY 64 STRASBOURG on Saturday, March 9.   The card also hosts a welterweight title showdown between reigning champion Harut Grigorian and former champion Cedric Doumbe.  Watch live worldwide on UFC Fight Pass.
