Middleweights Donovan Wisse (12-1, 8 KO’s) and Matěj Peňáz (21-3, 10 KO’s) clashed on the GLORY 64 SuperFight Series in Strasbourg, France.
The southpaw Peňáz used his kicks to keep Wisse at range early. Wisse backed the Czech into the corner with pressure and scored with a right hand.
A body kick from Wisse was met with a flying knee from the taller Peňáz. Wisse’s constant advance gave Peňáz trouble. A right head kick from Wisse was just barely blocked by Peňáz.
In the round’s final minute, Peňáz turned up his volume, landing with punches and knees.
A straight right hand from Wisse dropped Peňáz just seconds into the second round. Peňáz was able to recover from the heavy shot and the fight continued.
The pair traded head kick attempts, but neither was able to land clean. Wisse continued to march forward, cracking Peňáz with a left hook along the ropes.
Peňáz dropped his hands and backpedaled as he tried to recover. Wisse stalked him to the ropes and a body shot sent Peňáz to the canvas again. This time Peňáz could not recover and the referee halted the contest.
“It was a great victory,” said Wisse. “He was a strong, tall opponent, but I was able to get him with a body shot.”
Donovan Wisse def. Matěj Peňáz by TKO (body shot). Round 2, 2:49
