Baumert steps in to replace El Rayess at GLORY 20

German lightweight Max Baumert (13-5-0, 4 KO’s) is stepping up on nine days notice to replace Elias El Rayess on the GLORY Superfight Series 20 card taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates next Friday.

El Rayess, from Lebanon but active in the UAE for regional MMA promotion Desert Force, was to have made his debut for GLORY next week but has suffered a broken foot in training and has been forced to withdraw.

Baumert, who fought Canadian prospect Josh Jauncey on the GLORY 19 Superfight Series card in February, will now face Russian debutant Anatoly Moiseev (9-0-0) in his stead.

“We are disappointed to have lost local hero El-Rayess of course, but we have a great replacement for him in Baumert. He has very good boxing and he is always pushing forward looking for the knockout so he guarantees an exciting fight for the crowd,” remarked Cor Hemmers, GLORY Head of Talent Operations.

“Baumert’s fight at GLORY 19 ended on a cut in the third round after Jauncey opened a deep gash over his eye. It was a close fight to that point and Baumert had scored a knockdown. He was very disappointed with the result and he has jumped at this chance to get back in the win column.”

Moiseev comes in with an undefeated 9-0 record as a professional and an amateur record of more than 200 fights with only a handful of losses. He describes his fighting style as “intelligent” and says he takes an “intellectual” approach to breaking opponents down to open them up for a finishing blow.

Baumert is now 1-1 in GLORY. He debuted with a knockout win over Ismail Uzuner at GLORY 6 ISTANBUL in 2013 before returning to the ring for the February fight with Jauncey.

GLORY 20 DUBAI and GLORY Superfight Series 20 take place next week, Friday April 3, at the Dubai World Trade Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

GLORY 20 DUBAI airs on Spike TV in the US at 10pm ET/9pm CT, while the Superfight Series card will air via tape-delay a week later, Friday April 10, on the CBS Sports network.

Both cards are available to watch live online as an HD pay-per-view stream via our streaming partners EverSport. The cards are priced at $9.99 each. Click here for more information.
