GLORY extends Mwekassa and Schilling contracts

GLORY has this week signed breakthrough light-heavyweight talent Zack Mwekassa (12-2, 11 KO’s) to a new deal.

‘The Black Warrior’ has been signed to a renewed multi-fight deal as he continues his quest to blast his way to the GLORY World Light-Heavyweight Championship.

Mwekassa, a professional boxer and kickboxer from South Africa by way of Congo, made his GLORY debut in explosive fashion when he stopped UFC veteran and fan favorite Pat ‘HD’ Barry in the first round of their contest at GLORY 16 DENVER in May last year.

At GLORY 18 OKLAHOMA he took part in the Light-Heavyweight Contender Tournament and scored another big knockout against Brian ‘The Lion’ Collette in the semi-final stage.

He was on track to repeat the feat in the tournament final until a head kick from Brazil’s Saulo Cavalari ended the fight and pushed Mwekassa into second place. Mwekassa now stands 2-1 in GLORY and has already established a reputation as one of the hardest punchers in the fight game.

“We have been very impressed with Zack and so have the fans. Big knockouts are exactly what GLORY is all about and Mwekassa’s explosive, hard-hitting style is a perfect fit for our brand,” said Jon Franklin, GLORY CEO.

Renewed contracts are also in place with Joe ‘Stitch ‘Em Up’ Schilling, Artem Vakhitov and Josh Jauncey as GLORY continues bringing the biggest names and the brightest new talents to kickboxing fans around the world for the 2015 season and beyond.

“There is no doubt that Joe Schilling has proven himself to be championship material in GLORY. He is one of the hardest-hitting and entertaining fighters in kickboxing today, with a fan-pleasing style and a big character, and we look forward to more great fights from him this year,” said Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.

Schilling (18-6, 11 KO’s) has proven to be one of the world’s top middleweight fighters in his time with GLORY, winning the first Middleweight Championship Tournament at GLORY 10 and coming second in the eight-man LAST MAN STANDING tournament at GLORY 17.

On both occasions he faced Artem Levin in the tournament final, winning the first match and losing the second. Levin now holds the GLORY World Middleweight Championship and a third fight between the two seems inevitable for 2015.

Schilling’s next fight takes place next week, Friday February 6, when he faces the young Canadian prospect Robert ‘The White Dragon’ Thomas in the co-main event of GLORY 19, live in the US on Spike TV.
