Bitter grudge match late addition to GLORY 22 FRANCE

A long-standing grudge between two top welterweights will be resolved in the ring at GLORY 22 FRANCE thanks to a late switch in the line-up.

Karim ‘Gadjetboy’ Ghajii has suffered an injury in training and cannot compete against Yoann Kongolo (59-5, 45 KO’s) on the Superfight Series section of the card.

His place will be taken by Cedric Doumbe (48-3-1, 32 KO’s), from France by way of Angola.

Doumbe and Kongolo have a history after their 2014 match ended in a controversial points loss for Doumbe. Harsh words were exchanged between the two before and after the fight and now they have the chance to settle their issue in the ring.

Currently riding a five-fight win streak, Doumbe pushed for the chance to rematch Kongolo once he heard rumors that Ghajii was out of the bout. Well-known for his big personality and swagger outside of the ring, Doubme is an explosive and technical fighter inside of it.

“It was sad for us to lose Ghajii from this card but we have a superb replacement fight now. The fact that we needed only one day to put this fight together shows the strength of French kickboxing and Muay Thai,” says Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.

“Here we have a heated rematch between two guys at the top of their game so I think we can expect to see some fireworks in the ring. I am really looking forward to seeing this fight and already I am hearing similar comments from other people in the French fight scene.”

GLORY 22 FRANCE takes place Friday June 5 and features Rico ‘The Prince’ Verhoeven in the headline slot against challenger Benjamin ‘Mr Gentleman’ Adegbuyi in a World Heavyweight Championship match.

The event airs live in the USA on Spike TV at 4pm ET and on Canal+ in France at 10pm CET.
