“Calm mind, electric body” will be the keys to victory for Van Soest in ...

Tiffany van Soest (18-2-1) heads to Madison Square Garden, New York City next month to make her second defense of the women’s super-bantamweight championship.   Standing opposite her in the world’s most famous arena will be Anissa Meksen (93-3) of France, one of the most accomplished female fighters in the sport.    The two adversaries come from opposite sides of the planet but both lay claim to being the best women’s super-bantamweight on it. The winner of this fight at GLORY 48 NEW YORK can truly lay claim to being the world’s #1.   Los Angeles, California native Van Soest is 4-0 in GLORY and took possession of her belt when she won last year’s Super-Bantamweight Grand Prix, which played out across several events in 2016.   Two of those four fights took place in Europe and the other two took place in the US, in Los Angeles and Chicago respectively. This will be her first time fighting in Madison Square Garden.   “[Being on US soil?] There’s nothing different. My focus is always razor sharp. But there’s definitely added excitement to be fighting at a historic venue like MSG,” she says.   Facing an opponent as accomplished as Meksen, who is 2-0 in GLORY but who has an extensive record outside the organization, also adds to her excitement.    “I rank her as one of my more challenging opponents due to some of our similarities but I feel I’m more well-rounded in terms of fighting style,” says Van Soest.   “The key to victory for me is to keep a calm mind and electric body while controlling the space. Make her feel something she’s never felt before.    “I am faster, stronger, my timing is better - and I know she’s thinking about me every day.”   GLORY 48 NEW YORK takes place Friday, December 1 in The Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York City.    Van Soest and Meksen headline the Superfight Series section of the card. GLORY 48 SUPERFIGHT SERIES airs live worldwide on UFC Fight Pass between 7.30pm and 9.30pm Eastern Time.
