Fans have voted Michael Duut and Danyo Ilunga as the Fight of the Night award winners for GLORY: COLLISION.
Their light-heavyweight war took place in the headline slot of the GLORY 36 Prelims, which aired live and free around the world via UFC FIGHT PASS and numerous national television networks.
The fight had knockdown after knockdown as they traded huge blows back and forth over the course of three rounds. At the end of the three rounds they had scored two knockdowns each and the judges returned a verdict of a draw.
Under GLORY rules that meant the fight proceeded to an extra round, the winner of which would be the winner of the fight. Both fighters went after it with everything they had and it was close until the dying seconds, when Duut was able to score his third knockdown of the fight to take the win.
Afterwards Duut saluted Ilunga for his toughness and said that the encounter “was like a Rocky movie, the kind of fight you want to be in as a fighter”. They are now 1-1 against each other and a trilogy match in 2017 seems certain.
The 'Knockout of the Night' award for GLORY: COLLISION goes to Harut Grigorian. He stopped Germany's Danijel Solanja in just 1:01 of the first round by way of two brutal body shots.
A right hook across the torso was followed by a left hook back across the same path. Solanja folded under the impact and was bent double on the canvas. He was not able to even to try and stand to beat the referee's count, making for another impressive finish for the heavy-handed Grigorian.
Every fighter who wins an award gets a cash bonus of $5,000.
GLORY's next event takes place January 20 at the Novo in downtown Los Angeles. GLORY 37 LOS ANGELES is headlined by middleweight champion Jason 'Psycho' Wilnis defending his belt against New Zealand's Israel Adesanya.
