'Fire and Ice' as Kongolo and Grigorian set to clash at GLORY 31 AMSTERDAM

An explosive clash is set for the GLORY 31 AMSTERDAM Welterweight Contender Tournament as Yoann Kongolo (61-7, 45 KO's) meets the hard-hitting Harut Grigorian (42-9, 31 KO's).

Kongolo, fighting out of the famous Mike's Gym in Amsterdam, was last seen in the main event of GLORY 29 COPENHAGEN when he gave welterweight champion Nieky Holzken one of the toughest fights of his career.

Grigorian – no relation to lightweight GLORY fighter Marat Grigorian – made his debut at that same event, opening the 'Superfight Series' card with an incredibly intense fight against Spain's Maximo Suarez.

The relentless Grigorian clicked into top gear from the opening bell and overwhelmed Suarez, knocking him down more than once on the way to a TKO victory at 2:55 of the very first round. Now he looks to take a big step up the ladder by going after the the #2-ranked Kongolo.

“This is a very interesting match, a kind of 'Fire and Ice' scenario,” observes Cor Hemmers, GLORY's Managing Director of Sports.

“On the one side you have Kongolo, who uses a lot of tight, technical boxing skills, angles and head movement. He looks to create openings and place his shots. On the other side you have Grigorian, who is notorious for an unbelievable level of aggression and constant output.

“Grigorian goes out there and just looks to smash the opponent to bits; break him down, punch holes through his guard. He can be a bit 'do or die', he either overruns them or gets caught out in the process. So it's an interesting clash of styles. Both of them really come looking for the finish as well, so it's very likely that the judges won't be needed for this one.”

GLORY 31 AMSTERDAM takes place Saturday June 25 at the RAI AMSTERDAM and marks the organization's second visit to the spiritual home of kickboxing. The debut event GLORY 25 AMSTERDAM was a complete sell-out and GLORY 31 is on track to be the same.

Robin van Roosmalen headlines in a lightweight title rematch against Thai standout Sittichai. Their GLORY 25 MILAN fight ended with a close decision that went Van Roosmalen's way. Sittichai maintains that he was robbed by the judges and says that he is coming to Amsterdam to “knock Van Roosmalen out on his home soil”. Van Roosmalen strongly disagrees, setting the stage for a heated battle.

The GLORY 31 'Superfight Series' card airs live and exclusively worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS. The numbered card airs afterwards live in the US on ESPN 3 and around the world in more than 120 territories.
