The action at GLORY 18: RETURN TO GLORY in Friday caused a lot of movement in the official GLORY rankings.
Robin van Roosmalen took the World Lightweight Championship from defending champion Davit Kiria, ascending to the champion’s slot above the rankings and dislodging Kiria from that pedestal.
Kiria not only returns to the regular ranking lists, he does so in the #2 slot, with Andy Ristie at #1 thanks to the slight difference in points between them. Kiria lost 12 points for losing to Van Roosmalen but that was enough to make Ristie the #1 contender.
The young Canadian talent Josh Jauncey had his second fight for GLORY on Friday night and has almost cracked the Top Ten in the lightweight division after stopping the older and more experienced Jae Gil Noh of South Korea.
Jauncey rises from #17 to #11 while Noh, a K-1 MAX veteran making his debut for GLORY. He enters the rankings at #19.
In the middleweight division Robert ‘White Dragon’ Thomas has cracked the Top Ten after stopping #12-ranked Mike Lemaire in the third round of their contest. He now climbs from #11 to #9.
High-flyer Wayne Barrett tripped up on an unexpectedly powerful Jason Wilnis, losing a one-sided match by unanimous decision. He falls from #2 to #5 while Wilnis rises from #9 to #4, sitting one place above Barrett following this latest rankings updated.
In the evening’s only heavyweight match, Romanian prospect Benjamin Adegbuyi beat Hesdy Gerges to switch places with him in the rankings. Adegbuyi now sits at #4 and waits for the winner of the Rico Verhoeven/Errol Zimmerman title fight while Gerges drops to #6.
The four-man Light-Heavyweight Contender Tournament also caused movement in that division - points allocations for Contender Tournament participations and victories are currently under review (allocations are expected to be increased) - so the rankings movements in the light-heavyweight division will be published in a separate article later this week.
