Young Canadian prospect Jauncey returns at GLORY 18’s ‘Superfight Series’

The young Canadian prospect Josh Jauncey (20-4, 9 KO’s) will return to action on the ‘Superfight Series’ card taking place at GLORY 18: RETURN TO GLORY on November 7.

Jauncey, 21, will face an experienced South Korean opponent in Jae Gil Noh (30-11, 10 KO’s), a veteran of K-1 MAX and other top-flight organizations. Noh, a K-1 Asia Max 2008 Finalist, has faced numerous top names in his career, including inaugural K-1 MAX champion Albert ‘The Hurricane’ Kraus.

Jauncey debuted in the lightweight (70kgs/154lbs) at GLORY 16 DENVER in a fight against the Amsterdam-based veteran Warren Stevelmans. An early knockdown made it look like Jauncey might have taken too much of a step up but he quickly bounced back to take control of the fight.

He completely dominated the final round, forcing Stevelmans entirely on the defensive, before taking a unanimous decision. His showing caught the eye of seasoned observers sitting ringside that night.

“We were impressed with Jauncey’s potential after the performance against Stevelmans. He showed he has toughness and heart as well as skill, which are three qualities you really need if you want fight at this level,” says Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.

“He’s beaten one opponent with a lot more experience, now let’s see if he can do the same again. Noh is much taller than Stevelmans so Jauncey won’t have a reach advantage in this one. That plus his extensive international experience means this fight is a very stiff test for Jauncey.”

Jauncey was born in London, England but the family moved to Canada not long afterwards. His father is a former kickboxing trainer and runs the World Kickboxing facility in Vancouver. Josh trained from a young age and as a teenager spent his summers training at the famous Meijiro Gym in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

There his training partners included multi-time world champion Andy Souwer plus the UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who also visits Team Souwer from Brazil periodically for stand-up training and sparring.
