GLORY Superfight Series Results

***SPOILER ALERT*** The fights detailed below form part of the GLORY Superfight Series and will air via GloryWorldSeries.com in the near future. If you don’t want to know the results before you see the fights air, do not read on. Six fights, three knockouts - the GLORY Superfight Series fights which took place ahead of GLORY 11 CHICAGO did not disappoint. STRIKEFORCE and PRIDE FC veteran Sergey Kharitonov (4-3) made his return to the kickboxing ring with a fight against Daniel Sam (21-9). The British champion took the first round with crisp combination work against the tentative Kharitonov but the Russian turned up the heat in the second, punishing his opponent with brutal body shots and heavy hooks. Sam faded as Kharitonov completely dominated the third round, taking a unanimous decision win 29-28 from each judge. Former #1 light-heavyweight Danyo Ilunga (54-5) lost his ranking spot to Tyrone Spong at GLORY 9 and now sits at #2. Michael Duut (38-5) had plenty to say about that in pre-fight comments, saying he would be demoting Ilunga to #3 by knockout. That created some bad feeling between the two but unfortunately the heated fight finished near the end of the first round when Duut sustained an arm injury and was unable to continue. Karate champion Raymond Daniels (24-0) scored perhaps the most impressive KO of the evening when he took out UFC veteran Brian Foster with a perfectly-placed hook-kick. The rare technique is just one of many in Daniels’ unusual arsenal and he promised fans there is plenty more to come. Competing for Knockout of the Night was ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Moxon’s (34-6-1) win over 21-year-old prospect Reece McAllister (36-5-1). Initially Moxon struggled with McAllister’s longer range but he found his distance at the start of the third round and inflicted a crushing one-hit KO to take himself to 1-1 in GLORY. Filip Verlinden (41-11-1) and Saulo Cavalari (27-2) had a grueling fight, going the distance via non-stop exchanges of hard combinations. Verlinden won round one but Cavalari edged ahead, taking the last two rounds and winning his GLORY debut by unanimous decision. The Superfight Series fights were opened by Canadian prodigy Gabriel Varga (23-2) facing STRIKEFORCE veteran Jose Palacios. Round one was close but Varga soon proved too much for Palacios (44-13) to handle. His superior speed, timing and technique won him the fight in style. GLORY Superfight Series 11 Sergey Kharitonov defeats Daniel Sam via unanimous decision (29-28) (29-28) (29-28) Danyo Ilunga defeats Michael Duut via TKO, R1 at 2:23 min. Raymond Daniels defeats Brian Foster via TKO, R1 at 2:24 min. Saulo Cavalari defeats Filip Verlinden via unanimous decision (29-28) (29-28) (30-27) Steve Moxon defeats Reece McAllister via KO, R3 at 28 sec. Gabriel Varga defeats Jose Palacios via unanimous decision (30-26) (30-27) (30-27)
