âStone Coldâ Steve Moxon (33-6-1, 22 KOâs) returns to the GLORY World Series this weekend with a point to prove.
The stocky lightweight smashing machine debuted at GLORY 5 LONDON in March this year against Muay Thai talent Jordan Watson of the UK. But his fight did not go well; he struggled to land his usual bombs while Watson racked up points.
At GLORY 11 CHICAGO, Moxon will face another Muay Thai stylist from the UK. This time itâs the 21-year-old prodigy Reece McAllister (36-4-1, 12 KOâs), who by coincidence also debuted at GLORY 5 with a win over the veteran Tim âTNTâ Thomas.
âI hope Reece has seen my fight at GLORY 5 and is making his plans based around what he saw in that performance,â says Moxon. âBecause that was⊠I canât even find the words to describe it really. It was a bad indicator of how I fight, letâs put it that way.
âI hate fighters who make excuses but honestly, that fight, I didnât even get a warm-up. Something got moved around in the running order. I was sat in the dressing room when they ran in and were like âMoxon! Youâre on now!ââ
âI had to run downstairs and get in there. No warm-up, no pads, nothing. I didnât even know I was in the ring, you know what I mean? By the time I got going it was too late. The fight just went in a blur and then it was over. But he didnât hurt me, he had nothing.â
After returning to Australia, Moxon took some time off to relax and think about what changes he wanted to make to his training. He made some adjustments then got back into competition, finding success against elite opponents.
âSince then I have been back out winning fights, Iâm on a four-fight win streak now with wins over Dzhabar Askerov and Yuri Bessmertny, who have also fought for GLORY,â he says.
âIâve also been taking the game a lot more seriously - my diet, my preparation, the weight cut in particular. Iâve taken on sports nutrition and diet advice, right now Iâm only two kilos off the weight and Iâm feeling great, ready to go.
âI want to show Reece and everybody else that I belong on the world stage. I actually met him when he was 17. We were both training in Thailand at the time so I trained with him for three months. Heâs tough and heâs good. Itâs going to be a good fight.
âBut knowing him personally doesnât make things any more difficult. Itâs a sport and he knows that. I want that knockout the same as any other fight.â
GLORY 11 CHICAGO takes place this Saturday October 12 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The main event is a long-awaited grudge rematch between light-heavyweight rivals Tyrone âKing of the Ringâ Spong and Nathan âCarnageâ Corbett.
