Belgaroui says Wilnis “can’t fight a sniper with a shotgun” at GLORY 45

Former middleweight champion Jason Wilnis is coming off a loss to Simon Marcus which saw the belt removed from Wilnis’ waist and wrapped back around Marcus’.

At the same time, Yoursi Belgaroui was battling his way through a four-man Middleweight Contender Tournament to secure victory and place himself into the division’s upper echelon.

Belgaroui is taller and rangier than Wilnis, with a full 13 centimeter (6”) reach advantage, something he intends to exploit. 

“A reach advantage is obviously an advantage, it’s in the name already. If you fight a sniper with a shotgun you are never gonna win,” he says.

“He doesn’t fight smart… The only strength I see in him is if I become too comfortable and make mistakes. That’s the only way he can hit me.”

Wilnis, however, evidently intends to surprise Belgaroui, who has been working on the assumption that the former champion will bring a “one dimensional” game to the fight and look to brawl his way to victory.

“It’s going to be a good fight but a little bit technical also,” says Wilnis, revealing that he and his team have been analyzing tape of Belgaroui.

“We looked at his mistakes and how he slowed down [in the tournament] so we are going to take him technical. But it’s going to be a good fight, I am sure about that. It’s not going to be a boring fight.

“This fight puts me one step closer to getting back to the title, so it’s a serious fight.”
