Fighting out of famous Amsterdam fighting institution Mikeâs Gym, Massaro âThe Projectâ Glunder will be on home soil this coming Saturday as he enters the ring to face Rotterdam-based rival Zakaria Zougarry at GLORY 45 AMSTERDAM. The featherweight encounter is being tipped as âone to watchâ by in-the-know fans and media as it pits two of the divisionâs most dynamic young talents against each other, with fireworks expected. âItâs not possible for anyone who is coming to my city to win against me, so I am going to beat him up and send him home with an L,â says Glunder, who arrived in GLORY by stepping into the GLORY 42 PARIS Lightweight Contender Tournament on 48 hoursâ notice and KOâing tournament favorite Niclas Larsen. Zougarry too made a spectacular debut. His fight with Turkish veteran Yetkin Ozkul at GLORY 41 was immediately declared a âFight of the Yearâ contender afterwards, and hopes are high that this encounter with Glunder will achieve the same distinction.
Glunder has talked in the past about how, if it wasnât for kickboxing and for Mike Passenier, head coach of Mikeâs Gym, he would be âdead or in jailâ. âIâve been arrested a few times, I got punished, but kickboxing was always my escape. I felt at home, I felt everybody liked me. I didnât have a lot of friends when I was younger but the gym changed that,â he reveals. âIf I wasnât a professional fighter I donât know where I would be in life but I donât think it would be a better place than I am now.â Understandable then, that this GLORY 45 fight with Zougarry holds extra significance for him, as he is representing his team as well as his city. Glunder and Zougarry will square off on the GLORY 45 SUPERFIGHT SERIES card this Saturday, September 30 at the Sporthallen Zuid in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The card airs live worldwide via UFC Fight Pass and numerous terrestrial broadcasters.
