WHO WILL WIN THE GLORY15 TOURNAMENT?
More than half of the thousands of fight fans who voted in our online poll believe that Tyrone Spong will win this weekend’s GLORY 15 ISTANBUL tournament.
We asked fans to pick who they thought would emerge victorious from the four-man tournament and 53% picked Tyrone Spong, currently ranked #1 in the Light-Heavyweight division and winner of last year tournament
On the line is the World Light-Heavyweight Championship title and a grand prize of $200,000.
All four tournament participants are champions in their own right, yet just 3% of voters believe that Nathan ‘Carnage’ Corbett - a highly-decorated Muay Thai champion - will be the one to win the tournament.
That is despite Corbett having the highest KO percentage of any fighter in the tournament. Fully 75% of his wins have been inside the distance, although most have been under Muay Thai rules rather than the Unified Rules of Kickboxing.
Gokhan Saki - guaranteed to be crowd favourite in his ancestral Turkish homeland - was the second most popular choice as winner, with 39% of voters backing him to become the new Light-Heavyweight champion in the world’s premier kickboxing league.
Brazilian knockout artist Saulo Cavalari got some attention for his huge KO of Mourad Bouzidi in December and that has translated into 5% of voters picking him to win.
If recent history is anything to go by - Rico Verhoeven winning the Heavyweight Tournament at GLORY 11 CHICAGO and Andy Ristie winning the Lightweight Tournament at GLORY 12 NEW YORK – whose who stand by the underdogs, could well turn out to be right.
GLORY 15 ISTANBUL takes place this Saturday April 12 in Istanbul, Turkey and airs in the USA on SPIKE TV at 8pm ET. It also airs in more than 150 territories worldwide - check local listings for details.
