Tyrone Spong Post Surgery News

Tyrone Spong has successfully undergone surgery on the leg injury he suffered against Gokhan Saki in the final of the Light-Heavyweight Championship Tournament at GLORY 15 ISTANBUL on Saturday night.

A low-kick attempt in the first round was met with a solid Saki shin-check, with Spong’s right tibia breaking under the impact. He was taken from the ring on a stretcher and sent straight to a local hospital, where the leg was encased in plaster.

Spong then boarded a flight home to Florida where he underwent surgery shortly after landing. Surgery went well and he is on track for a quick recovery.

"I want family, friends and fans to know I'm okay. The trip home to Florida was a long one and I am thankful to be back in Florida. I had surgery this morning and it went perfectly,” he said in a statement released by his management team at The Blackzilians.

“My doctors said it turned out to be a clean break and they feel confident that I will recover 100 percent. They said I could be training for a fight as early as six months if I rehab properly. I feel very optimistic.”

According to his management the injury was a clean break to the tibia bone, the larger of the two shinbones (the secondary bone is the fibula), and “all reports from doctors are positive” following a surgery, which was “100 per cent successful”.

GLORY Sports International would like to wish Tyrone Spong all the best as he recovers from this injury. We look forward to his return to the ring when his rehabilitation is completed. You can tweet your own get-well message to Tyrone via @tyrone_spong
