Robin van Roosmalen (32-6, 19 KOâs) has gone back to old ways as he prepares to take a run at the lightweight title.
He is likely to be the next fighter to challenge for the World Lightweight Championship held by Georgian karate fighter Davit Kiria (22-9, 7 KOâs), so he is starting the preparation process and awaiting official confirmation of the bout.
âSince the fight with Marat Grigorian in April Iâve been staying busy with my gym,â he says.
âI am still training two times a day because we have a lot of up and coming fighters that I need to work with. But obviously I am not training at the same intensity as when I have a fight coming up.
âI always stay in shape but I also like to eat. I get bigger but I donât have a problem with losing weight. I eat healthy but sometimes you have to eat some bad stuff too, you know?
âBut to be honest I really donât miss anything when I have a fight coming up. My diet for losing weight is all really good food, which I cook myself, so I donât have any problem with losing weight. I think it tastes even better than the bad food I eat sometimes.
âBut I am pretty lazy with cooking so itâs all quite simple, easy things. Chicken, beef, rice. I like pasta as well.â
Last year, Van Roosmalenâs training went through some changes as he divided his time between different facilities for his fight training, his boxing and his strength and conditioning work.
âIâve switched back to my old boxing coach and I have made changes to my training camp. I am back with the gyms I always trained with,â he explains.
âMy main gym is Den Bosch Fight Club and I train also with Nicky Hemmers plus my old boxing coach. Those are the three gyms I was at when I started.
âLast year I was going to other gyms for things like strength and conditioning, plus a different boxing gym, but I am done with that now. I am back where I am most comfortable and everything is going great.â
