GLORY 33: Vigney out, McDonald in against 'Chopper Chi'

'Chopper' Chi Lewis-Parry has a new opponent for GLORY 33 NEW JERSEY.

The British heavyweight had been lined up to face his rival Xavier 'X-Man' Vigney, but matchmakers have now settled on American newcomer Anthony “The Joker” McDonald for the slot. He brings an undefeated 7-0 record in kickboxing, with 6 knockouts, and is 5-2-1 in MMA with three of those wins also by knockout.

Fighting out of Eugene, Oregon, he boasts a 90% knockout rate in his victories across the two sports. In MMA he holds the distinction of being a King of the Cage tournament winner and is the #13-ranked heavyweight in California, according to the Tapology website.

Lewis-Parry (7-1, 3 KO's) was most recently seen in action at GLORY 32 VIRGINIA where he stopped Maurice 'Moe the Pirate' Greene in the second round of their contest, which aired live on UFC FIGHT PASS. Afterwards the outspoken Brit took the microphone to call out reigning champion Rico Verhoeven.

Verhoeven's response at the time was to tweet at Vigney telling him he was “jealous” that the Californian would be getting the chance to “punch [Chi] in the face before I can”. That chance now passes to McDonald, but Verhoeven and Lewis-Parry will cross paths in New Jersey as Verhoeven is headlining the event in a title defense against Brazilian veteran Anderson 'Braddock' Silva.

Lewis-Parry is currently based in California. He is part of the team at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose and has spent much of 2016 working with Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez and other top-tier fighters at the highly successful facility.

GLORY 33 NEW JERSEY takes place Friday, September 9 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, NJ. Lewis-Parry's fight takes place on the 'Superfight Series' card, which airs live on UFC FIGHT PASS. Middleweight champion Simon Marcus headlines in a title defense against Dutch prospect Jason 'Psycho' Wilnis.
