Hemmers: Li and Abdurahman set for "explosive encounter" in New York

The influx of Chinese talent into the GLORY ranks will continue next month when Chenchen Li makes his debut for the organization at GLORY 43 NEW YORK.

The young featherweight has earned a solid reputation on the Chinese circuit and demonstrated a level of quality which caught the eye of GLORY matchmaker Cor Hemmers when he went talent-scouting in China early in 2017.

Li boasts a 27-4 record and has scored 14 wins inside the distance, giving him a prolific finish rate of 51%. He lives and trains in China but has trained extensively in Muay Thai, the native art of Thailand, as well as in kickboxing.

“Li is exactly the kind of fighter we want for GLORY. He likes to go forward and engage with the opponent, he is always looking to finish the fight, he's got power and he's got killer instinct,” he says.

“He's also willing to fight anyone. He wants to test himself against the best and he wants to be number one in his weight class. Li told us his aim is to be the first Chinese fighter to take a GLORY title home to China.”

Standing opposite Li in New York will be Mo Abdurahman (24-6) from the United Kingdom. He earned his spot on the GLORY roster after being scouted in a recent 'Road to GLORY' feeder event in the UK and is now looking to prove he belongs in the division.

"With both fighters making their debut in the world's premier kickboxing league in this fight, the stage is set for an explosive encounter," says Hemmers. "Featherweight has proven to be a division where fighters can fast-track themselves to a title shot. The journey towards that goal starts in New York on Friday, July 14."
