New York man Wayne Barrett (4-0, 3 KO’s) has been matched with Romanian standout Bogan Stoica (38-5, 29 KO’s) for the quarter-finals of the GLORY: LAST MAN STANDING tournament.
After an excellent amateur career - plus the winning of a Golden Gloves boxing tournament - Barrett has gotten his professional career off to a perfect start with four consecutive victories.
Three of those have come under the GLORY banner and one of them is over his bitter rival Joe Schilling, who is also in this tournament.
Their paths may cross in the tournament but only if Barrett can get past Stoica and his explosive, unorthodox style.
Stoica’s highlight reel is full of high-impact finishes by way of flying knees, axe-kicks and flying kicks. Having dominated the circuit in Eastern Europe he is now joining the world elite ranks of GLORY.
“Here we have something of a clash of styles. Barrett is quite serious about his boxing, he has fought as a boxer at a high amateur level,” says Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.
“Stoica’s style is similar in some ways to the great Remy Bonjasky, with the jumping knees and the flamboyant kicks. But he has good hands as well, he’s a complete kickboxer like Barrett, so it’s going to be a tough fight for both.”
GLORY: LAST MAN STANDING takes place Saturday June 21 airs on PPV priced at $34.95 in the USA.
As well as the Middleweight Championship Tournament it features a World Heavyweight Championship fight between Daniel Ghita and Rico Verhoeven plus Marc De Bonte defending the World Welterweight Championship against Canadian contender ‘Bazooka’ Joe Valtellini.
