Filip Verlinden (42-11-1, 16 KO’s) has been added to the line-up for the upcoming eight-man Middleweight Championship Tournament.
‘GLORY 17: LAST MAN STANDING’ takes place Saturday, June 21 and features the world’s top eight middleweight fighters battling it out over one night for the GLORY World Middleweight Title.
The event will air on pay-per-view.
Verlinden made his middleweight debut at GLORY 15 ISTANBUL this past weekend with a solid unanimous decision win over Israel Adesanya of New Zealand.
The former heavyweight has set a record in the organization by becoming the first - and only - fighter to compete in three GLORY weight classes.
A short run at light-heavyweight convinced him that middleweight was his natural home and now that his successful debut has been made, he is taking a run at tournament victory in June.
“Verlinden has faced some of the sport’s biggest names and has had some great fights for GLORY,” says Cor Hemmers, matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.
“He competed in the GLORY 4 TOKYO 16-man tournament as a heavyweight and the GLORY 9 NEW YORK tournament as a light-heavyweight. Now he completes an amazing trio by fighting in the middleweight tournament at GLORY 17 LOS ANGELES.”
Verlinden’s wins include victories over Australian champion Steve McKinnon, Sergei Lascenko and former Japanese national champion Fabiano Cyclone.
Matchmaking for the tournament - and the final fighter to be invited - will be announced in the near future. Stay tuned to GloryWorldSeries.com for breaking news.
