Two top contenders will face off in the quarter-final stage of the GLORY: LAST MAN STANDING Middleweight Championship Tournament on Saturday, June 21.
Joe ‘Stitch ‘Em Up’ Schilling (16-5, 10 KO’s) of Los Angeles, California faces Simon Marcus (39-0-1, 34 KO’s) of Canada in what will be the third meeting between the pair.
They have previously fought twice under the rules of Muay Thai, the native striking art of Thailand which both are trained in, but this fight takes place under the Unified Rules of Kickboxing as used by GLORY.
With limited clinch and no elbow strikes, fights in GLORY are faster-paced than their Muay Thai counterparts and require fighters to push the action and be more explosive with their attack.
“Marcus beat Schilling in both their previous encounters but that was under Muay Thai rules and this will be different,” says Cor Hemmers, GLORY matchmaker and Head of Talent Operations.
“People have Marcus as the favorite based on their previous encounters but under Muay Thai rules he uses the clinch a lot and we limit that in GLORY because we like to keep the action moving.
“That means he will be required to adjust his fighting style and that plays into Schilling’s hands as he is more experienced under these rules.
“If Marcus can make the transition successfully we are going to witness the emergence of a strong new threat in the middleweight ranks. If he doesn’t, Schilling is going to have his way with him.”
GLORY: LAST MAN STANDING takes place Saturday June 21 airs on PPV priced at $34.95 in the USA.
As well as the Middleweight Championship Tournament it features a World Heavyweight Championship fight between Daniel Ghita and Rico Verhoeven plus Marc De Bonte defending the World Welterweight Championship against Canadian contender ‘Bazooka’ Joe Valtellini.
