Francois Ambang (17-7, 6 KO's) was originally set to face young French standout Jimmy Vienot in the GLORY 42 PARIS SUPERFIGHT SERIES opener, but an injury meant Vienot had to be replaced a week out. Remy 'Robocop' Vectol stepped into the vacant slot.
Vectol competes in both Muay Thai and kickboxing. GLORY head matchmaker Cor Hemmers says he has been âknocking on the doorâ for some time but an opportunity had no presented itself â until now. âVienot getting injured is Vectol's lucky day.â
Hemmers' words were prescient - it was indeed Vectol's lucky day, as he took a unanimous decision over Ambang and snapped the US-based fighter's two-fight win streak.
On paper the short-notice fighter is almost always at a disadvantage. But a sliver of advantage does exist in the shape of unpredictability: if the opponent has spent their training camp preparing for a completely different fighter, it means they have to contend with the unknown on fight night.
Vectol looked slender opposite the stocky Ambang but also stood taller. That translated into a reach advantage which he used to full effect over three rounds, scoring with kicks and long knees and keeping Ambang on the outside as much as he could.
Ambang looked to close distance and land hooks followed by low kicks but Vectol's defensive skills and reach advantage meant that clean scoring opportunities were few for 'Bang Bang'. He did good work at times and that registered enough with three of the judges to give him one round, but as a panel they were unanimous in handing Vectol the win and snapping Ambang's win streak.
Remy Vectol def. Francois Ambang, Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
