Wamba outworks Diniz to climb heavyweight ranks

The co-headline fight of the GLORY 42 SUPERFIGHT SERIES card featured two heavyweights as France's Nicolas Wamba (49-7, 22 KO's) took on Brazil's Jhonata Diniz (15-5, 10 KO's)

Both have similar backgrounds in GLORY. When they joined the organization they had a hard time of it and ended up going back to the regional leagues to gain more experience and sharpen their skills before returning to GLORY for a second attempt.

This fight would determine which of them would take the next stop forward in their career and move up the rankings. It was a good scrap, with both of them game for action and fighting at a good pace, especially by heavyweight standards.

Wamba's reach advantage stood him in good stead as he was able to spend periods working the shorter Diniz at range, using long straight punches and low kicks. Diniz's tactics are the same in most of his fights; he is short by heavyweight standards and has to press forward and look to land overhands and hooks.

Over three rounds both fighters did good work but the fluidity of Wamba's work had him outlanding Diniz. Three of the attendant judges gave Wamba every round, while the remaining two judges had Wamba up two rounds against one for Diniz.

Wamba thus takes a unanimous decision win and will move forward to fight a higher-ranked opponent later this year, while Diniz goes back to the lab and looks to sharpen up for his own next outing.

Niclas Wamba def. Jhonata Diniz, Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
