‘Chopper’ Chi: “Vigney is a bum, I will do him in one”

‘Chopper’ Chi Lewis-Parry (5-0, 1 KO) started his GLORY career with a bang and, from the way he is talking, he has no intention of taking his foot off the gas any time soon.

“I’ve always jumped in at the deep end. I have never done anything the easy way. They can literally offer me [heavyweight champion] Rico [Verhoeven] next week and I would fight him,” he laughs.

“Rico - I would literally fight you next week brother. You have got something I want, and I have got something to give you!”

‘Chopper’ debuted at GLORY 20 DUBAI with a 25-second stoppage of South Korea’s Yongsu Park, writing his name into GLORY’s record books with the third-fastest knockout in organization history.

“He threw a kick
 he threw another one
 I threw a left hook
I threw another one - the fight was over,” he recalls.

“That left hook is something I have been working on in training for the past solid eight months and when it lands I know from training what it can do to people. As soon as it landed I know he wasn’t getting up.”

Now he is set to take part in the GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO Heavyweight Qualification Tournament on Friday May 3. In the semi-final he will face Everett Sims, while the other bracket has Xavier Vigney (6-1, 6 KO’s) against Maurice Greene.

Vigney, 2-0 in GLORY, was originally set to be Lewis-Parry’s opponent in Dubai but was switched to the San Diego card and replaced with Park. The match was in place long enough for Lewis-Parry to take a look at Vigney though, and he says he wasn’t overly impressed.

“Vigney is a bum, I will do him in one,” he smiles. “I think that fight needs to happen just to show there is only room for one 6’8” [guy in GLORY].”

For the two to meet, both will need to progress to the tournament final. Lewis-Parry is confident that will happen and is equally confident that he will secure victory.

That would earn him a spot in the next Heavyweight Contender Tournament and place the one-time LA Lakers tryout just two fights away from a shot at Verhoeven’s title belt.

“I want the gold. I am here for the gold. As I said, I am not here to muck about and play games,” he says. “I am here to dominate. I know any heavyweight watching that [Dubai fight] is gonna be worried like, “I don’t want to get hit with that left hook!”

GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO takes place Friday, May 8 in San Diego, California and airs in the US on Spike TV at 11pm ET.

Artem ‘The Lion’ Levin features in the main event, defending the World Middleweight Championship against bitter rival Simon ‘Bad Bwoy’ Marcus.
