âChopperâ Chi Lewis-Parry (5-0, 1 KO) started his GLORY career with a bang and, from the way he is talking, he has no intention of taking his foot off the gas any time soon.
âIâve always jumped in at the deep end. I have never done anything the easy way. They can literally offer me [heavyweight champion] Rico [Verhoeven] next week and I would fight him,â he laughs.
âRico - I would literally fight you next week brother. You have got something I want, and I have got something to give you!â
âChopperâ debuted at GLORY 20 DUBAI with a 25-second stoppage of South Koreaâs Yongsu Park, writing his name into GLORYâs record books with the third-fastest knockout in organization history.
âHe threw a kick⊠he threw another one⊠I threw a left hook⊠I threw another one - the fight was over,â he recalls.
âThat left hook is something I have been working on in training for the past solid eight months and when it lands I know from training what it can do to people. As soon as it landed I know he wasnât getting up.â
Now he is set to take part in the GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO Heavyweight Qualification Tournament on Friday May 3. In the semi-final he will face Everett Sims, while the other bracket has Xavier Vigney (6-1, 6 KOâs) against Maurice Greene.
Vigney, 2-0 in GLORY, was originally set to be Lewis-Parryâs opponent in Dubai but was switched to the San Diego card and replaced with Park. The match was in place long enough for Lewis-Parry to take a look at Vigney though, and he says he wasnât overly impressed.
âVigney is a bum, I will do him in one,â he smiles. âI think that fight needs to happen just to show there is only room for one 6â8â [guy in GLORY].â
For the two to meet, both will need to progress to the tournament final. Lewis-Parry is confident that will happen and is equally confident that he will secure victory.
That would earn him a spot in the next Heavyweight Contender Tournament and place the one-time LA Lakers tryout just two fights away from a shot at Verhoevenâs title belt.
âI want the gold. I am here for the gold. As I said, I am not here to muck about and play games,â he says. âI am here to dominate. I know any heavyweight watching that [Dubai fight] is gonna be worried like, âI donât want to get hit with that left hook!â
GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO takes place Friday, May 8 in San Diego, California and airs in the US on Spike TV at 11pm ET.
Artem âThe Lionâ Levin features in the main event, defending the World Middleweight Championship against bitter rival Simon âBad Bwoyâ Marcus.
