Opening proceedings in the Valley View Casino Center on May 8 will be an undercard comprised of local talent and rising stars looking to take their next step up the ladder. The card has been put together by Heather Hyatt, a matchmaker with GLORYâs promotion partner Roy Engelbrecht Promotions.
âI chose the fighters I felt would be the representation of the type of fighter that southern California - and especially San Diego - produces, plus fighters who would bring the most entertaining bouts for the fans,â she says.
There are several fighters on the card who are particularly deserving of âone to watchâ status, according to Hyatt, though she feels that the undercard in general hosts a high skill level and will be a good showcase for the region.
âThis area has some of the best gyms and coaches in southern California. It has produced, and will continue to produce, high-level fighters,â she says.
âI would hope to see all of the fighters from the undercard continue fighting with GLORY but if I had to single any one bout out, I'm very excited to watch the James Ewton(4-1) vs. Benjamin Roberts.
âThey have pretty similar backgrounds and a pretty similar style - they are relentless in the ring. They will be looking to make a big impression and that means the fight should be a good encounter. Whoever wins, I would say that both of them are names to keep a look out for in the future.â
GLORY hits the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California on Friday May 8 for GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO.
The card is headlined by Artem âThe Lionâ Levin of Russia - but now resident in San Diego - defending the World Middleweight Championship against bitter rival Simon âBad Bwoyâ Marcus of Canada.
In the co-main event, Los Anglesâ real-life ninja Raymond Daniels looks to get back on the title trail as he takes on Bellator and World Series of Fighting (WSOF) veteran Justin Baesman in a welterweight battle.
A four-man Heavyweight Qualification Tournament rounds out the Spike TV card with four big hitters looking to blast their way into their divisionâs next Contender Tournament with its chance of a title shot for the winner.
San Diego also hosts the Superfight Series 21 card, headlined by Top Ten heavyweights Benjamin Adegbuyi and Anderson âBraddockâ Silva in the most important fight of their careers to date. The winner leaves the ring with his name in the title conversation.
Tickets for GLORY 21 are available now at AXS.com and are priced at $46, $71, and $146.
