Navy vs. Marine Corps at GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO

The US Navy and the United States Marine Corps have fought side by side all over the world. But one night next month they will be cheering against each other as representatives from each square off in the GLORY ring.

Devin Goodale will represent the Navy and Kyle Stuart will represent the Marine Corps at GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO on Friday, May 8. The fight, GLORY’s second Military Feature Bout, will air across the United States on Spike TV.

“GLORY and Spike TV are proud to be staging our second military bout in support of Veteran Operation Wellness (VOW),” said Jon Franklin, GLORY CEO.

“San Diego is home to a large number of US military personnel and so it seemed a natural fit to stage this bout. The first Military Feature Bout took place in Virginia at GLORY 19 and was a big success, the crowd really got behind it and it got a lot of interest on television too.

“VOW is a charity which encourages military veterans to take care of their physical and mental health after their service is finished. We are pleased to be able to support that endeavor and also to be able to give these servicemen a platform to showcase the martial skills they have developed.”

Both Goodale and Stuart train at camps which will be well known to fans of Mixed Martial Arts. Goodale is based in San Diego and trains at Alliance MMA, home to Dominick Cruz and Phil Davis among others, while Stuart trains at Arizona Combat Sports alongside UFC fighters Jamie Varner and John Moraga.

Matchmaking for the bout was undertaken by Jimi Partyka, GLORY’s co-promoter in Virginia and himself a Navy serviceman. Partyka facilitates liaison between GLORY and service members who are interested in taking part in a feature bout.

“These particular fighters have more experience in MMA than kickboxing but both have solid striking skills and I think this will make for an exciting bout,” he remarked.

“The southern California region houses various US Navy Bases plus Camp Pendleton so we should see plenty of support for both fighters and that should make for a really good atmosphere in there.

“Representing their service branch and sharing the same ring as the world’s most elite strikers, you can be sure neither of them will be taking a step backwards in this one.”

GLORY 21 SAN DIEGO takes place Friday, May 8 and features Artem ‘The Lion’ Levin defending his World Middleweight Championship against Simon ‘Bad Bwoy’ Marcus in the main event. The event airs in the US on Spike TV at 11pm ET.

Tickets for GLORY 21 are available now at AXS.com and are priced at $46, $71, and $146.
