GLORY’s Iconic Images #3: Saulo Cavalari is here

Saulo Cavalari has ripped his way into the upper-tier of the light-heavyweight division and is becoming a fan favorite after three great performances.

This fight at GLORY 12 NEW YORK was the one which blasted him into prominence. On paper it was difficult for him, matching his fledgling record with the experience of Bouzidi. In practice it was the complete opposite: Cavalari came out like a man possessed and put Bouzidi away with one of 2013’s biggest knockouts.

“Saulo Cavalari is someone I would never, ever want to fight. The man is a beast in the ring; but outside of it he is actually a very calm and humble dude,” says James Law, GLORY photographer.

“This shot of Saulo comes just moments after he knocked out Mourad Bouzidi. In this shot you see a jubilant Saulo Cavalari celebrating being king of the urban jungle that night in New York.

“What was amazing about this part of the sequence of events was, he actually stropped mid-stride, turned around and stomped his way towards my camera to let out the most outrageous, bellowing howl I had ever heard.”

Cavalari has also impressed Law outside of the ring. The Californian photographer says that, despite the menacing glare, Cavalari is one of the easiest fighters to work with when it comes to a photo-shoot.

“Some fighters can be tricky to work with but Saulo is always down to get the right shot during our long studio days and offers maximum respect with his signature double fist-bump,” he says.

“You can't get away from Saulo with just a standard 'right hand pound, see ya later' bump, oh no - he makes sure the point at your other hand to get that left hand bump to keep the good juju flowing. Great guy.”
