Shemsi Beqiri (72-9-0, 31 KO’s) has been forced to pull out of his GLORY12 NEW YORK fight with the USA’s Ky Hollenbeck (45-3, 23 KO’s).
The Switzerland-based lightweight has suffered an injury in training and will not recover in time to compete at the event, which takes place Saturday November 23 at Madison Square Garden, New York.
His place in the bout, which is a reserve match for the evening’s Lightweight Championship Tournament, will be taken by the veteran Warren ‘Chaka Zulu’ Stevelmans (64-18, 20 KO’s).
Stevelmans is from South Africa but has been based in Amsterdam for most of his career. He trains at the legendary Vos Gym and numbers Remy Bonjasky among his training partners.
Also joining the GLORY 12 card are light-heavyweights Saulo Cavalari (27-2, 17 KO’s) and Mourad Bouzidi (75-21-1, 34 KO’s), who will be fighting as part of the GLORY Superfight Series.
Cavalari comes from Curitiba, Brazil, a city which has produced some of the greatest fighters in the martial arts world.
He fights out of Thai Boxe, a partner of the famous Chute Boxe MMA team, and debuted at GLORY 10 LOS ANGELES with a win over the more established Filip Verlinden.
Bouzidi needs no introduction to kickboxing fans. The veteran Tunisian was a fixture of the heavyweight circuit for a decade before recently dropping to light-heavyweight.
In a career spanning almost 100 fights Bouzidi has faced numerous current and former greats, including his friend and training partner Peter Aerts. His wins include Hesdy Gerges and Errol Zimmerman.
GLORY 12 NEW YORK takes place Saturday November 23 at Madison Square Garden. The event will air LIVE across the USA on SPIKE TV.
