Catalin Morosanu’s athletic career started with amateur and then professional rugby. He only started kickboxing because he enjoys tough physical competition and wanted something to do in the off-season. It then quickly transpired that he packs dynamite in both hands and suddenly a new career beckoned.
Morosanu’s playbook consists of one page, upon which one word is written: “Attack”. He fights in the manner of somebody who is vaguely aware that there is a thing called ‘defense’, but considers it to be something akin to cowardice and thus has no truck with it.
Watching Morosanu (44-10, 26 KO’s) fight is like watching a rhinoceros use a combine-harvester to run someone over. A short, stocky tank of man, he ploughs forward with his arms whirring like windmills, churning out a wave of power which breaks down defensive guards and the men hiding behind them.
His debut at GLORY 38 CHICAGO earlier this year showcased his style perfectly. Faced with the towering Mo Greene, who enjoyed a significant height, reach and weight advantage, Morosanu simply pressed forwards and winged bombs, his overhand left eventually finding a home on Greene’s jaw and ending his night early.
Facing Morosanu this time will be Polish heavyweight Michal Turynski (21-9, 6 KO’s). The 30-year-old Polish heavyweight got himself on the GLORY radar by winning a world title under the WAKO banner last year and following that with strong performances this year.
In July he represented Poland at the 2017 World Games, competing in an eight-man tournament split over two days. He was eliminated in the semi-finals, with GLORY contender Guto Inocente of Brazil going on to win the heavyweight gold medal.
Fit and durable, Turynski possesses power but is more of a technician than Morosanu and will be looking to use that to keep the powerful Romanian at bay and take the fight into later rounds, where endurance will be more of a factor.
