Big knockout makes California’s Vigny a heavyweight presence

With two men this size in the ring the fight was always unlikely to go the distance. More than 50% of GLORY bouts end in a knockout and this one joined the larger half of that statistic quickly, ending in just over one hundred seconds.

Vigney, a Californian who recently helped train Nick Diaz for his fight with former UFC champion Anderson Silva, is extremely athletic for a heavyweight, with great balance and movement. Sims, heavier-built, is more of a power-shot fighter.

Sims got some good shots in early and put some nice body kicks on Vigney, enough to mark him in several places, but soon found his kicks being caught or swept aside as Vigney figured his timing out. Establishing his jab he was able to push Sims where he wanted him then unload with a big right hand which put him down hard in his own corner.

Sims beat the count but was clearly rocked. Vigney came in behind his jab again, punched Sims across the ring towards another corner then let fly with the power shots. A right hand bent Sims forwards, hooks put him down.

“I was just planning on using my boxing to pick him apart and really take my time but I managed to catch him early and take advantage of that,” he said afterwards.

“Whoever GLORY want to match me up with next is fine. I never stop training. I have fought tough guys before so whatever they want to do, whenever they want to do it, I am ready.”
